The Gray Sweatshirt aka My Uniform

For me mornings are all about saving time. Saving time means making fewer movements. Making fewer movements literally means- wear the first thing you can grab, which basically means- Shop Your Own Closet. Luckily, my abundance of gray shirts never fails here. Wherever I look- there’s a gray shirt. Winters are that time of year when I don’t want to get out of bed, my mind is too cold to think and feeling warm > looking “hot”. Sad, yet oh so true. My winter laziness has played a part in making me more creative with what I have (i.e- a lot of gray sweatshirts). I’ll share two of my favorite ways to wear them while avoiding that frumpy elephant look.

Gray Shirt with Printed pants look

Isabel Marant boots, Current\Elliot pants, Zelda Knit, brooch, bag, earrings

Oh looky here! Gray sweatshirt + printed pants + big accessories= lazy Leia’s dream. I am surprised to say that colorful printed pants are a lazy dressers dream. Just put a pair on and you instantly look like you give a damn, slap on a few pieces of big jewelry and you are ready for fashion week. JK.

The sexy librarian look. Pull on your pullover (huh!) over a dress and you are set. I am also quite fond of leathery backpacks as of lately, especially those really distressed ones. Winter hats are also quite awesome. Though this particular hat won’t really keep you warm, it will certainly keep you chic.

All illustrations are done by me.

Shop Your Own Closet- Skater Skirts

What I love about skater skirts, and you should too, is how they seamlessly transition from summer to fall. I have worn my skater skirt with bodysuits and tank tops over the summer and I can’t wait to try and wear it with blazers, booties and parkas.

For a casual work look I’d wear the skater skirt with a button down shirt and a statement necklace. I’d take advantage of the fall’s trend and try to find a shirt with spikes on its collar, because that’s just how unoriginal I am.

Pair a skater skirt with a parka or blazer to get a bit of extra warmth. I also think it’s a good time to try the skater skirt in (faux) leather, for a more wintery look.

As you can see, I am experimenting with my illustrations and am trying to make the most of my Wacom Bamboo (yes, I’m old like that). All of today’s illustrations were made digitally using Artrage and Photoshop and are my own.

Crop-tops, (no) Muffintops

Contrary to popular belief, crop-tops are not the devil. Also- you don’t have to be a size 0 to wear them. The key, as always, lies in proportion. If you wear bottoms that are mid rise to high rise- you (and I) can wear a crop top and not worry about the muffintops. The mid rise bottoms make sure that the narrowest part of the midriff will be exposed.  If you choose to wear a slim fitting crop top- you can wear a loose fitted skirt or pants. The high-low skirt will be perfect for that. If you like the flowing kind of crop tops- feel free to wear a tight miniskirt or shorts.

So really this whole crop top deal was not brought upon us to annoy, as I first suspected, but rather make us explore and seek the proportions that work best for each body type.
