Fashion in the Snow

Somehow, keeping my toes and fingers warm has overshadowed any presumable sense of fashion I’ve ever had and any need of dressing up. I know I have written a whole post about dressing in sub zero, but honestly, the whole move did not leave me with much to work with. I have with me some winter essentials, but as for variety… well, you can forget about that.

I have my basic essentials to keep me warm, so I pretty much look the same every single day.

Wearing: Quicksilver ski jacket, Accessorize leather gloves, Zara pants (now oil stained! classy), anonymous oh-so-warm snow boots and more things that I can’t really write anything about.

I don’t really know how people who lived in colder climates for most of their lives cope with the gray weather/ same silhouette combo. To me it just seems like something that can surely drive me into madness or depression, but so far it had only pushed me into the kitchen with an undying urge to bake. I guess baked goods are a valid way to avoid winter depression.

What I’m wearing: jacket, red shirt (with sailboats!), jeans- Mango; sweater- Illustrated People, shoes- H by Hudson

The past month has been hectic. I have been running around, tying up loose ends and trying to sort all my worldly possessions into two piles: keep and throw away. Many of the other things in my life went through the same filters: thoughts, relationships, habits… Moving to a different country is very cleansing in that sense.

Pictured are a few things I’m going to miss where I am now- cats, beaches and the sun. This move has been a long time coming, holding all of the difficulties of moving to a country whose language I don’t speak fluently. I’m prepared for what’s to come and am embracing the ex-pat’s life with all its bureaucracy.

Once I am settled in my new place you could start expecting  more regular updates. I promise to try and not neglect this blog, which is my “home on the net” no matter where I currently reside. What a strange little place the world’s become. :)

The Gray Sweatshirt aka My Uniform

For me mornings are all about saving time. Saving time means making fewer movements. Making fewer movements literally means- wear the first thing you can grab, which basically means- Shop Your Own Closet. Luckily, my abundance of gray shirts never fails here. Wherever I look- there’s a gray shirt. Winters are that time of year when I don’t want to get out of bed, my mind is too cold to think and feeling warm > looking “hot”. Sad, yet oh so true. My winter laziness has played a part in making me more creative with what I have (i.e- a lot of gray sweatshirts). I’ll share two of my favorite ways to wear them while avoiding that frumpy elephant look.

Gray Shirt with Printed pants look

Oh looky here! Gray sweatshirt + printed pants + big accessories= lazy Leia’s dream. I am surprised to say that colorful printed pants are a lazy dressers dream. Just put a pair on and you instantly look like you give a damn, slap on a few pieces of big jewelry and you are ready for fashion week. JK.

The sexy librarian look. Pull on your pullover (huh!) over a dress and you are set. I am also quite fond of leathery backpacks as of lately, especially those really distressed ones. Winter hats are also quite awesome. Though this particular hat won’t really keep you warm, it will certainly keep you chic.

All illustrations are done by me.
